Research and Diagnostic Services department plays a key role in accurate disease detection, scientific investigation, and treatment planning. Operating under Mukisa Veterinary Clinic, our modern diagnostic laboratory is equipped with advanced tools for microscopy, hematology, radiography, and ultrasound imaging, enabling timely and precise animal health assessments.

By combining laboratory science with field experience, we help veterinarians and farmers understand disease causes, monitor herd health, and make informed decisions that improve productivity and animal welfare. Our diagnostic operations also support national and institutional efforts toward disease surveillance and control.

Our Diagnostic Capabilities

Microscopy and Hematology

We use microscopic and hematological techniques to analyze blood, urine, and tissue samples from animals. These tests detect parasites, infections, and blood abnormalities early, guiding proper treatment and disease management. Hematology helps assess anemia, infection levels, and organ function, ensuring accurate medical interpretation for both large and small animals.

Radiography (X-Ray Imaging)

Our digital radiography unit delivers high-resolution images of bones, joints, and soft tissues. This helps identify fractures, tumors, and internal abnormalities that cannot be detected through physical examination. Radiographs are also essential for pre-surgical planning and post-operative evaluation, thereby improving the precision of veterinary treatment.

Ultrasound Imaging

Using ultrasound scanning technology, our team conducts safe, non-invasive examinations of internal organs and reproductive systems. Ultrasound is used for pregnancy diagnosis, organ evaluation, and identifying internal infections or tumors. These real-time imaging tools help detect issues early and guide effective clinical intervention.

Laboratory-Based Disease Testing

Our laboratory runs specialized tests to diagnose bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections in livestock and pets. We conduct screening for zoonotic diseases such as Brucellosis, Anthrax, Rabies, and Leptospirosis, helping protect both animals and human populations. Each test is validated through standardized veterinary procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Research and Collaboration

Beyond clinical diagnostics, SMG Vets and Farm Services actively participates in research collaborations with universities, government agencies, and private institutions. Our focus areas include zoonotic disease control, reproductive health, and animal nutrition, aiming to develop evidence-based solutions that strengthen Uganda’s animal health systems.
